Harold W. Hoehner, Professor at Dallas Theological Seminary,
believes that Jesus died on Friday, April 3, AD 33.(1)(2)
Mr. Hoehner theorizes that the 173,880 days in Daniel's time line
began on March 4 or 5, 444 BC, thought to be the 20th year of King Artaxerxes, and
ended on March 30, AD 33.
However, scientific dating all the papyri clearly refutes the viewpoint that the 20th year of King Artaxerxes occurred in the year 444 BC.
Based on scientific dating the eleven papyri written during the reign of King Artaxerxes refutes the theory that the decree would have been issued in the year 444 BC. The scientific data supports that the 21st year for Artaxerxes began on September 6, 445 BC (Hebrew Calendar). Therefore, the March 4 - 5, 444 BC date occurred in the 21st year of King Artaxerxes' reign.
Scientific dating the Elephantine papyri supports that King Artaxerxes' 20th year began on September 18, 446 BC (Hebrew calendar). The decree to rebuild and restore Jerusalem is based on scientific dating of an Elephantine papyrus that was written on November 18, 446 BC. This papyrus supports that the decree to rebuild Jerusalem occurred on Sunday, March 16, 445 BC.
