Feast of First Fruits fulfilled by Christ |
- Following the Passover, the Hebrew people left Egypt and
slavery. Yet, Pharaoh pursued the Hebrews with his army.
Hollywood depicts these events in The Ten Commandments. A
great miracle occurred when God separated the waters of the Red
Sea. The Hebrews crossed the sea on dry land. However, the
Egyptians drowned in the sea. (See the story of Israel crossing
the Red Sea in Exod. 12:37 - 14:31).
- According to Moses' writings, this event occurred on Sunday.
Bible scholars call this the Feast of First Fruits.
"When you enter the land I am going to give you
and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first
grain you harvest. He is to wave the sheaf before the Lord so it
will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day
after the Sabbath." [the Sunday after
Passover] (Lev. 23:9-11).
- What happened on the corresponding Sunday after the Passover
on which Jesus died? According to New Testament literature,
Jesus arose from the dead. Israel's supernatural deliverance
from Egypt happened on the same day that the Messiah conquered
death. The Messiah offers eternal life to anyone who truly
believes.
The Apostle Paul likens Jesus' conquest of death to the Feast of
First Fruits. "Christ has indeed been
raised from the dead, the FIRSTFRUITS of those who have fallen
asleep" (1 Cor. 15:20).
Jesus could not have arose from the dead as an ordinary man.
